Memory Link Generator
Software componentMemoryCognition & Memoryarc:MemoryLinkGenerator
A memory component that creates connections between related stored memories, giving memory a navigable structure from one memory to related concepts.
Responsibility. Links related memories to enable associative navigation.
Also known as: Link generation, Episode linker
Relationships
is invoked by dependency
writes dependency
is evaluated by assurance
Design guidance
- SHOULD link consolidated episodes to related semantic knowledge, procedural workflows and prior episodes to enable multi-hop retrieval.
- SHOULD encode causal structure (which actions led to which outcomes) to support causal retrieval.
Quantitative guidance
As stated by the sources; verify before use.
- Removing link generation while keeping memory evolution degrades ~8-12% (Ch3.7).
Classification
- Patterns
- Associative memory linkingSemantic links (shared concepts)Temporal links (happened-before)Causal links (one episode led to another)Entity links (same customer, product, system)Link new episodes to related existing episodes for graph-based retrieval
- Quality attributes
- Functional suitability: correctness and validity (ISO/IEC 25010 | NIST AI RMF: valid)
