Query-Type Retrieval Router
Software componentKnowledge & DataKnowledge & Dataarc:QueryTypeRetrievalRouter
An adaptive retrieval controller that classifies each query by type (calculation, factual, comparison, procedural) and routes it to the matching strategy: direct generation, standard, decomposed, or expanded retrieval.
Responsibility. Routes queries to a retrieval strategy by query type.
Also known as: Pattern-based retrieval routing, Hybrid pipeline router, Query classification router
Variant of Adaptive Retrieval Controller abstract
When to choose. Choose when query types differ in their optimal retrieval strategy and more sophisticated routing than a single confidence gate is warranted.

Design guidance
- SHOULD route calculations to direct parametric generation, comparisons to decomposed retrieval, and procedural queries to larger top_k retrieval.
Quantitative guidance
As stated by the sources; verify before use.
- Procedural queries retrieve top_k = 8 (Ch6.6).
