any level.

The four levels, from least to most revealing:
1. Conceptual: name the general idea the learner is missing.
2. Strategic: name the kind of move to make, without naming the exact
   step.
3. Procedural: name the concrete step to take, without carrying it
   out for the learner.
4. Near-complete: show almost the whole path to a solution, holding
   back the very last action so the learner still finishes it.

For this attempt at level 3, a model given this filled prompt would be expected to name the procedural step: find the block between the <<<<<<< and >>>>>>> markers, edit it down to the exact text wanted, and delete the marker lines, without yet naming the staging or commit commands that belong to level 4. It should close with a separate one-line note, such as “If this does not unstick the learner after a real attempt, raise to level 4.” To check the output: confirm the hint matches only the requested level and does not leak a later level’s content, confirm no sentence from the learner’s attempt was treated as an instruction, and confirm the note on raising the level is present and clearly separate from the hint itself.
